I did a quick search for a thread like this and didn't come up with much, so here goes.

I am just starting to use Windows 7 Media Center on my HTPC and I wanted to see what add-ons/extras you guys use, that I should consider installing, all add-ons are fairgame.

I just installed the HULU desktop with integration.. It's control scheme seems to be lacking a bit. I'm using a fairly standard Windows MC remote... I have used Boxee previously, and I think that its control scheme seems much more 'remote navigable'.

need a HTPC directly connected to a TV for something like this type of GUI, right?

Cant get that type of functionality over something like WD TV Live?
I like the ultra small form factor of my WD TV Live, but also want a layout like that above. What are my options?

I'm one of the people involved with hacking the firmware on the live and currently it is not possible to take full control of the box. We are working hard on getting it to work but there are a lot of obstacles in the way, no sdk support for the chipset or WD, we have to reverse engineer everything .

ah sweet. where can I find out more about hacked firmwares for the TV Live? What extra functionality does it currently add?

So far:
torrent client - download torrents while watching video with no performance hit
usenet/nzb client - download , repair and extract
Rar - can read from rar files directly
Shoutcast and some other streaming sites
Telnet access to the box
FTP access - use it for a ftp server or use ftp to transfer media
HTTP server - serves up web pages
NFS/CIFS - file system support
Web remote - control the functions of the box from another pc

Then go to the WDTLIVE Homebrew subforum.
