Windows 6/11 or 7/11 question

So right now I use 7/11 but I have raw input on, so from what I understand it's like i'm using 6/11 when in a game if I have raw input on right? I use 7/11 because I like the speed for my desktop and 6/11 feels too slow for doing stuff non gaming related. I could increase my dpi and put it to 6/11 but if I have raw input on it doesn't matter it wouldn't make any difference it would just make more work for me right? I keep hearing different opinions on that you should only use 6/11 or use whatever and have raw input on so I'm just looking at what I should do. Thanks for the help.

Haha ok so what does raw input do. It ignores your mouse and just uses the 6/11 option which is what most people say you should use right? I heard someone say that it's bad to use anything other than 6/11 even if you have raw input on.

I like 7/11 for how fast my mouse moves so I'm wondering if it really is bad to use 7/11 even with raw input or if it's fine. Hopefully that clears it up somewhat.

When you go to control panel the mouse and then pointer options for pointer speed there are 11 tick positions you can select. From what I've seen everyone says tick 6 is the best because it's 1:1 for pixels or something I don't know. So the 7th tick is a little faster because it goes 1:1.5 pixels or something so it's not 1:1 but I like the speed for the desktop.

Xavier can you be more specific, what do you mean? Does raw input not work like that or is it not bad to use 7/11 with raw input?

You're talking about settings in a game, right? You're probably going to get more luck with answers in the Gaming forum here on AT. If that's the case, maybe report your own post and ask for it to be moved?

FWIW, just use whatever setting you prefer. If you have to change it before or after gaming, who cares. Your'e not going to damage something either way. It's a preference, that's all.

This is why mice usually have software that let's you adjust DPI. Interpolated DPI is more accurate than the Windows settings. Windows at 6/11, with "Enhance pointer precision" off, and the mouse fix, will take care of all applications and games, new and old.

But, what is, "raw input"?

OTOH, you might actually like acceleration. Some people do.

For the games that actually use RAW input, it doesn't matter what your windows settings are. Not all games allow RAW at all, and even fewer use RAW for everything. In fact I think IDTech is the only engine I've used that does RAW everything. Others are a cluster f*** like StarCraft that uses RAW for triggers and text input, and DirectInput for everything else.
