I have an old K6-2 box running Windows 2k3 serving all of our music and some movies. All shares are fully accessible from any of the other 5 computers in the house. I couldn't access the shares back when I had a Slackware install but I wasn't in Slackware much so it really didn't matter. I've started using my new Gentoo install more often now and I still can't access the shares using Samba.

"smbclient -L fileserver2 -U guest" will list the shares, but i cannot mount any of them using the guest username.

We have another k6-2 in the house serving data and movies that I CAN access in linux without problem. I have mirrored his sharing and security settings exactly and still no go!

Any ideas? I'm sick of listening to shoutcast radio. i've got to get this working

Doesn't the guest account come disabled by default in WIn2K3? Did you enable it? I would try creating an account in WIn2K3 and connecting using that account. If you created a domain on the server you would need to connect as DOMAINNAME/User.

i did enable the guest account a couple days ago. i read that you could use smbclient to at least get a list of the shares. the was more than i was getting previously so i tried it.

I'll have to check this stuff out this afternoon after class and my nap.
