Windows 2k vs. W98SE

I use win98SE, it is really stable on my new comp (Dell)
and i use it for mainly, gaming (single player and multiplayer), internet, and office 2000 & MS Visual Studio 6.0
Is upgrading to windows 2000 a good or dumb idea for someone like me? I odnt know much about it right now, but i will be working with it at college in Jan.

If you plan to upgrade, make sure your hardware is compatible with windows 2000. The professional version supports more hardware than the advanced server version (for me anyway).

If win98 SE is stable for you, than stick to it. It would suck to lose a program you're writing to a crash.

My roommate's comp is running win98 SE w/o any problems. It seems that win98 SE is stable if you don't "tweak" it too much.

Well win2k will improve your internet connnection. My ping was much more lower and steady with win2k. I had a dual boot with win95 and win2k but then i dumped 95 and went win2k alone. It just feel much better and i haven`t seen a BSOD for a long long time.
But as seeing you're getting a Radeon, i wouldn`t go near win2k.

I have Windows 2000 and Windows 98 Second Edition on two separate hard drives. I keep trying to get W2K to operate as well as W98SE, but so far it has a long way to go. W98SE loads faster, has faster video, recognizes my modem properly and therefore has faster internet connections and shuts down faster (in fact, W2K has a bug that keeps it from shutting down properly with an ATX power supply).

I got W2K since my company is planning to switch to it in the next year and I wanted to know if all of my critical software runs on it ... it does! The main problems are hardware related.

Actually, the main concern I now have is the difficulty of making Operating System backups that work. I'm still studying that one, but no easy solutions, yet.

W98SE is working very well for me and if my company wasn't considering going to W2K, I would never consider it.

Jingles

I'm running and runned Windows 2000 Pro, Server and Advanced Server. Personnally i'm using Advanced Server. Compared to Win98SE, Win2k is so much more stable. Since the TCP/IP stack is much more better, you get faster downloads etc.
