windows 2k server. LONG bootup time

anyway to reduce the long bootup time with windows 2000 server? The checking network connections part takes forever.

How long are we talking? Like 45 min? Disable all the services you can.

If it's a Domain Controller, anywhere from 4-8 minutes is normal, longer if its got junk for hardware.

I disabled some services and now it takes forever on the loading personal settings part.

You probably disabled the wrong services. Enable them all, then disable them one by one until you find the one that is causing the slowness of loading the personal settings.

Indeed, as Saltin said, the server will take much longer if it is setup as the Domain Controller.

How long are you talking though? Has it gotten worse? Did you make any changes?

Could be a bad NIC or poor network connection(s) if it is taking longer than 10 minutes.

Check Event Viewer to see if any services are having problems starting up.
