Windows 2K Question...Help Plz!!!

I keep getting a pop up icon in my tray that says: local area network cable unplugged. What does that mean, and why does it keep popping up? It does it at fairly regular intervals???
TIA for any help...and for being nice to a newbie!!!

Are you on a network? I think windows detects a network card installed but its not conencted to anything. Check if you have a networking card but its not plugged in. Check your local area connections and eliminate unused connections.
