windows 2k program files??

I have just built a win2k machine and i have a 45 gig HD broken up with 8 gig for win2k; 11 gig for programs; and the rest something like 24 gig for data and music. i was planning on installing all of the programs that i use into the second partition. but what i am noticing is that when i install the software i choose to install them there and a very small folder is created there but a lot still goes into the program files folder in win2k. should i have moved this folder over to this partition? it seems that things are automatically written there upon install of a software program. how do people usually handle this?

By default, \Program Files goes on the same partition as \Windows or \Winnt. They only way I know to change this is during install with an msbatch.inf file ... and I have never tested my theory.

Yes, there are software packages (MS Office, Norton LiveUpdate, etc.) that will still write some files to the \Program Files folder even though you have specified another location. Other than moving \Program Files as I mentioned above, I don't think that there is anything you can do about it.
