I am interested in installing Windows2k on my machine. I have heard good things, I have heard bad things. I am primarily an FPS gamer, quake 2 and 3 mostly. I have a 384/128 DSL connect. My hardware is as follows"

Abit BH-6 Revision 1.0 mobo
Intel Celeron 633@950 cpu
Soundblaster Live Xgamer 5.1
ATI Radeon 64 MB DDR video
3com ADSL modem
Maxtor 30gb 7200 RPM drive
Hitachi 8x/32x DVD-ROM
Delta 52x CD-Rom
Iomega USB 4x4x6 burner

The main thing im worried about is the motherboard. It is about 2 years old. Do any of our resident geniuses see any problem in putting Win2k on this system? If you have a BH-6 running with Win2k please let me know and aleve my fears. :)

Thanx
Joe

I knew I shouldnt have gotten rid of my 1.2 T-Bird system......

win2k will run at 98 speeds as long as you are willing to tweak it for a couple of days.

dont know about the mobo, but go for it, win2k shoudl be on everyones comp IMO.

If you arer mainly a gamer DON'T get Win 2K. It will run some games ok, others not so good...

It's best to use Win ME or Win 98SE!

The only games I play are Quake 2 and Quake 3. I literally do nothing else with the machine, besides surf the web and get my mail. I would imagine that any newcoming games would be better optimized for Win2k than has games of the recent past? Any ideas?

QuakeWorld, Quake 2, and Quake 3 all run beautifully on my system under Win2k. I lost maybe a total of 2fps, but gained major stability increases, and hella better memory management.

That motherboard should be fine for W2K. I had it on a BX6 and BH6 b4.
