If you're a gamer then Win98se. ;)

But really Windows2000 is very good right now, even for gamers & the latest nvidia drivers helped even more.

Why dont you do a dual boot & decide for yourself what OS is best suited for your use.

Personally, there's six months I run Windows ME, I never reinstalled it. It is quite stable, I don't understand what's the problem, even if I never tryed Windows 2000! Is there a SP3 for it now?

I must say that I don't use most of the tiny tools of ME like the zip folders, the system restore, so it's kind of a win98SE, with newest dlls!

As far as 9x goes, 98SE is the way to go. ME was just a nudge more than the 9x kernal can handle. If you primarily play games, just keep it lean.

98SE will be better than ME, but personally I liked Windows 2000 better, and now XP above Win2k

OK, I'm on a kt7-r 1.3ghz, 512 ram and a voodoo5 and in my q3 benchmarks, win2k ran just as fast as winme. The performance of win2k is only as good as the drivers for them. My 3dfx win2k drivers weren't totally complete and 3dfx originally made the v5 for win95/win98 so ofcourse, I lost a couple options and stuff when going to win2k. The sound blaster live card has been stuttering every now and then during mp3 playback in win2k, never did this in winme. I hear though, it has to do with the card. The only feature I miss from winMe is system restore. I didn't run any dos apps in winme so it was ok for me to upgrade to win2k. One thing that I love about win2k is the memory management, the #1 reason for me to switch from winme to win2k. Editing the system.ini in winme helped out a lot though.

It runs the popular ones =)
q3, hl, I haven't tried unreal tournamnet but that should work too. Unless it's a pure dos game, you shouldn't have any problems though some DOS games can work on win2k too I think like quake1.

You should just go with Windows 2000. It has increased in compatibility many times over since it's initial release in terms of games. It's extremely stable, and I think you can overclock even further with it if necessary.

go with win2k for stability, but if you are one of those people that has a weird stigma against using win2k since its based on nt use win98se and be prepared for it to bluescreen all the time. Whatever you do, dont use ME. If you use ME you have to turn a bunch of stuff off just to get it halfway as useable as 98se and then it still crashes more often.

Try a dual boot if you can. I use Me and Win2k Pro. Both systems work very well for me. WinME has served me well, I like the fast boot time and updated features, I run older glide games so this is the best gaming option for me. Win2k has a great feel to it though, I use it exclusively when not gaming. Both Op's seve me well.

well ... i've just installed 2k ..and as said ... i do think i'll fire ME soon :)

i dont know quake 1 ( i love this game :) ) but q3 got even faster with the last 3dfx drivers ...

the GUI looks like ME ( i really think its the opposite as 2k come first ) and that's it
no huge swap file ... greattt

go for 2k
