In my case, XP was the clear winner. I had trouble playing some games in 2000; they simply would not run. XP has run everything I've thrown at it, but your experiences may vary. I have heard of many people using 2000 to great results, but I've heard far more success stories using XP.

The only problem I ever had running games on Win2k was a game called "Cossacks" which was only minor.

Most the games I had run on 2k never worked. XP Pro handles graphics pretty well, even if you don't have a nice video card. Put a Geforce4 in an XP Pro machine and it's all good!

There are a large number of games that will work more or less the same in both OS's, however XP generally tends to be more compatable with various SW/HW so there are going to be some games that will not run in 2K but do in XP.

The reason some people think 2K can't run games is either
A: They run lots of really old games(think MS DOS based games).
B: They don't know about the compability tool that's bundeled with Win2K, but not installed by default.

For me, it was a tie, cept for Motorhead(Win9x game), which runs fine under Win2K using the compability tool, however when I tried to run it under XP using the built in compability tool, it would crash on startup.

I'm fairly certain that the compatability tool is only bundled with sp2, however you can download it as a windows update if you upgraded to sp2 from a differant sp.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that XP was more compatable than Win 2K just because they through much more support into programing basic compatabilty into XP to draw in their crowd running older software.

Nope, it's right there on the original CD.
Have a look-see under \SUPPORT\TOOLS on your Win2K CD.
