Windows 2000-updates are failing

Thump553

A month or so back my Win2k SP4 box was slammed by trojans, malware, etc. courtesy of one of my kids. After much effort I got everything cleaned up.

But now for some reason I can download but not install any Windows updates. Microsoft's site doesn't give me a clue how to fix this. I'd love to repair it rather than the usual reformat, reinstall and eventual cursing over the odds and ends I forgot to back up first. Manual installation of the updates doesn't work either.

Any ideas?

Pasted below is the bottom part of windowsupdate text file:

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try tonight. I'm not sure it will make any difference-I can download the updates fine, just can't install them.

Well, I've used my Windows 2000 for the last time. With Spysweeper and the latest NAV in place, it served me well. I have since upgraded to a Athlon 64 bit machine with Win XP.

Win 2000 has been a excellent reliable platform. I have been fortunate to never had any trojan, worm, or malware infecting my rig.
I guess my auto updates and dual auto weekly scanning have contributed to my problem free operation.

I have found the Win 2000 a very reliable O/S but as times change, so out with the old and in with the new. Thanks, Windows 2000. You will be missed.....

The update not allowed due to regulation is the throttling mechanism for WU/MU/AU. But since manual installation isn't working either, there is probably something else going on.

You can call PSS, since all cases related to updates are free. Personally, I would never trust a system that got that messed up by malware and would nuke from orbit.

🙂Have you considered doing a repair re-install? I realize its requires more work, but what the heck?, you don't mind working for another few hours?!!!!

Don't hit me!!!!! I don't know any better.
