Hey all I've been trying to connect a windows 2000 (host) to a Windows XP (client) with a crossover cable. When I first connect the cable both computers recognize it but niether will recieve packets from eachother even though they are both sending them.

Following this: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics_2000

It eventually tells you to right click on your "Internet Connection" and hit properties. i do this and it tells you to make sure you have all the proper components etc. installed in that little window. Mine are. Then it tells you to go to the sharing tab abd check something off. The problem is for some reason my Windows 2000 computer does not have that sharing tab.

Does anyone know whats wrong? :?

On the face of your question, it appears that you are trying to share a single Internet connection between two computers?

You have an Internet connection to a Windows 2000 computer. You've installed two network cards in that computer, and are trying to connect a Windows XP computer to the 2000 computer, to share its Internet connection.

Is that the case?

I recommend against using Internet Connection Sharing. It is difficult to troubleshoot and support, and you can probably find a router for $20.

If you still want to use ICS, then I'd recommend buying a switch instead of trying to use a crossover cable.

Your attempted use of both ICS AND a crossover cable is likely to make troubleshooting difficult. You are likely to spend a lot more time trying to get this working than the value of a router and two Ethernet cables.

I have 3 computers.

Computer 1: Hooked Directly to a wireless router.

Laptop: Wirelessly connected to the router, and also connected to Computer 2 via crossover cable.

Computer 2: Connected to laptop via crossover cable.

According to all the guides that I've read up on using ICS with crossover cables, my main problem is the fact that I don't have that "sharing" tab..

But thanks for the help anyway, I'll probably end up looking into a different setup anyhow. it's just I dont always need Computer 2 with the internet, I just hook it up once in a while. Or well am "trying" to hook it up.

Crap I've found my problem.

"If two adapters are not installed, you won't see the "Sharing" tab in the Local Area Connection properties window."
