Hi all,
I'm trying to set up a Microsoft Networks network with NetBEUI from a Windows ME machine to a Windows 2000 Pro machine.

Access to the ME machine from the W2K machine works just fine. I can access the files on the windows me machine, read, write, all that stuff.

The problem is, I need to use a CDROM Drive, and only the Windows 2000 machine has it. Access to the Windows 2000 machine is terribly difficult. In fact, I haven't been very successful trying to get it to work.

In network neighborhood, whenever I click on the windows 2000 machine, it asks for a login password. I don't know what the password is, because I don't remember ever setting up anything of the sort.

Can anyone help ??

Thanks.

Whenever you access a share on your win2k machine, you need to have a valid user account on that machine.

Don't you login to the win2k machine on bootup with a username and password?

If so, just use that to access the share.

If you do NOT have to login to get into win2k, you should setup a new user account with a password and login with that.

Win2k has a LOT more security than winME

no, it doesn't work. when the screen prompts me for a password, it's only asking for a password, it doesn't ask for the username. I tried using the password that I use to log to my win2k machine, but it doesn't work.

ahhh...ok, my bad

here's what you need to do:

setup a NEW user on the win2k box, and make the username the COMPUTER NAME of your win98 box

then set a password.

that way, when you try to access the share, it will ask for the new password, and that one will work

Ok

on the win98 machine click start then log off
you will see then a username and password box

Type a username and password that your 2k machine uses

for example administrator and the admin pass

you will now be able to see any shared files on the 2k machine if there are any
