======

To take ownership of a folder, follow these steps: 1. Right-click the folder that
you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. In the Name list, click your user name, or click Administrator if you are logged
in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group. If you want to take ownership
of the contents of that folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects
check box.
5. Click OK

======

The user i want to take ownership of the folder is not available to select. How do i add that user into the selectable box??

Yeah, I can never work out why this doesn't happen as expected. The easiest way I've found of doing it is to set the owner using the desired user- i.e. log in as Joe Bloggs and set him to the owner. Works every time :)

Ok yeah i was thinking of trying that

Although thats not really a large scale sollution. Lets say i create 50 different folders for 50 differnet useres, who wants to log in as each of them and re hook ownership??

Im such a permissions / 2K server newb!! ahhhh

Why would be on the website if it wasn't intended to be used? The admins of the network that I consult for use this tool all the time. They don't use the give ownership ability often, because they don't usually need to. But I have recommended this tool to many customers for giving ownership.

Ok ill give that a shot, i think im misssing something on the client side as well that i have to look into more. I just wanted to create a folder only accessible by myself (admin , or admins group) and the user. I can log in fine to the folder form anywhere on the network. But when the user does it doesnt take the user/pass... just keeps popping up the login box over and over...

Is this a domain environment? Is the user a member of the domain? Domain members shouldn't be prompted for credentials when accessing shares that they have been given permissions to.

no this is not a domain, just a small workgroup. All members are part of the correct workgroup.

Then you need to create the user account on the server as well. It should match the user account that is on the workstation (same password).
