I have Windows 2K Pro running as a server. I also have 2 Win98 PC that I want to have set up that when you turn on the PC it will require you to log onto the network before you can use the PC because both PC's have different users and each has their own share folder on the server. Pretty much like a business. I have figured out the Win98 part of it I think because it has the domin box at the bottom of the logon screen (Client for Microsoft Networks). The thing that I don't know how to do is, how do I set the 2K computer up so it will authenticate the users on the 98 machines? And what should the domin be, is it the IP of the Win2K machine?

I think I explained that well, if need more info let me know and I will post some.

A 2k pro machine is not capable of hosting a domain. It is a workstation OS.
It can perform limited " File Server" type duties, up to a maximum of 10 concurrent connections.
You cannot create a domain with the set up you have, nor can you configure the 98 machine to authenticate with the 2k pro box before a logon is allowed.

What you can do is configure them as peers in a workgroup.

Yeah that is how I have it set up right now, I just wanted a little more security.

Could it be done with Win2K Adv. Server? And I have never used Adv. Server is it GUI or Command Line?

Adv Server doesnt look any different than pro GUI wise, and yes you could set up a Domain with it. You can do most things from the GUI, and the more comfortable you get with it, the more you use the command line.

If you wanted to try something like that, you would want to read up on it.
Setting up a Windows 2000 domain requires Active Directory and DNS. That's a few months worth of learning right there.
Good luck.
