I want to set up a network with one computer running Windows 2000 Server and several running Workstation. I want to set it up so that users will be able to use any one of the computers and still have the same desktop/settings/etc... This means that all the user specific files would be stored on the server. I think this involves setting up the Server as a domain controller, but I don't really know anything about it. I checked some Microsoft step-by-step guides, but it didn't verify for me that setting up the domain controller was really the thing that I had to do? Could someone clarify this for me?

setup a domain controller, add the users, set their profiles to be roaming - done.

you'll need a share setup (i.e. profiles) with the permissions set to users=add&read, creator owner=full control, admin&system=full control.
