I can not connect to the internet on the Windows 2000 server edition server here. I have connection to all the computers on the local network, and vice versa, and all the computers on the network have internet connectivity, but this box doesn't.

The internet goes through a router, so all the computer's internet connections are independant of the server, as long as the router is up.

I am stuck on this: I have tried restarting the server twice now, and flushed the DNS on the servers, and yet I have no connection.

I'm sure I am missing some more specifics, and if you need anything, ask me.

What could be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

for server 2000 are you using static ip or dynamic(dhcp) ip? if you are using a static ip, did you add isp dns addresses?

It's a static IP.

The weird thing is that nobody usually touches that computer, especially because it is headless. Now, over the las couple of months, I don't know how, but the DNS was the same as the server's address itself.

It had been working like that, probably for ~ 2 years. And now it's made it stop?

So, anyways, I changed the IP address to what the rest of the network was, and everything is zipp-a-dee-doo-dah, but how can the address stop working like that??

The Server is likely a DNS Server and its DNS Forwarder entry is no longer valid or its DNS server quit running.

DNS servers for a local network will normally use THEMSELVES as their DNS server. This is the correct way to do it. The Server will normally be the DNS server for the entire network (all client PCs, as well as all servers). If the built-in DNS server cannot resolve an address, then that DNS server looks at the DNS forwarder entry and tries THAT DNS server. The entry(s) in the DNS forwarder will often your ISP's DNS server(s).

Most likely that entry is no longer a valid DNS server, so your poor server has no way to resolve Internet sites. Or your server's DNS service isn't running anymore.
