Hi,

I am installing win2k pro on a laptop. i dont know what the spec of the laptop is, but i know that it had win xp on it previously and it is a (Packard Bell iGo), then an error message came up on boot up preventing the os from loading. so as i dont have a win xp cd, i am going to install win2k pro.

After loading the win2k pro cd, i get to the part where it says; "To setup win2k on the selected item, press enter" so i select "C: Unformatted or Damaged 28608MB", then it says, would you like to format the item using either ntfs or fat. so i select ntfs, then the screen comes up saying, Please wait while setup formats the partition C: Unformatted or Damaged 28608MB on 28616MB Disk 0 at id 0 on bus 0 on atapi; and below this it says; set up is formatting..... 0% and nothing happens, i even waited 20 minutes, still nothing. Tried a few times, and i cannot get past this stage.

Anyone got any ideas? All help very much appreciated.

Cheers, Mo.

PS: I just had a look in the BIOS and ive got some spec:

Internal HDD 30006MB
System Memory 640KB
Extended Memory 227328KB
CPU Type Mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP
CPU speed 1600MHz

Use W2k setup to delete the partition and then create a new one. Try formatting afterwards. If that doesn't work, could be something wrong with the HD.

Try deleting and recreating the partition first. Also, you may want to run the hard drive mfg diagnostic program on it to make sure it's not failing.

Have you tried deleting the current partition information and then setting up a new partition (might not be a bad idea to setup two partitions - one for the operating system and another smaller one to place your drivers and files needed to configure the system), THEN format the new largest partition to install windows onto and leave the formatting of the other smaller partition until you have the operating system installed and the motherboard/chipset drivers installed.

Good luck.
