Windows 2000 problem please help

Hello everyone okay here is my situlation whenever i try to shutdown hybernate suspend or log off my computer the screen becomes a bit grey and just stays there if i click then i could use everything as if nouthing ever happened and when i just press power to turn off the comptuer scandisk never opens any ideas? and my secound problem is when i hit control alt delete instead of bringing me to the screen were i could choose to open the task manager or log off it just gives me the system processes with close button or tabs to swicth over any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Ok, the first part of your problem sounds like you have a process that doesn't want to close. This keeps your machine from shutting down. To try to troubleshoot what's causing it, start off by closing non system process in task manager and try shutting down. If it grays out but doesn't shut down again, try knocking out another process. Keep doing this until you find the process that's stopping you. From there it's up to you if you want to not run that program anymore or try to update it. For example, this used to happen to me with a fax program that came with a modem a long time ago. It wouldn't shut down on powerdown. I uninstalled it and it shut down without problems.

The second problem isn't really a problem but rather you just don't have it setup to require you to press ctrl+alt+delete to log on. Since you don't, it brings up your task manager right away instead of giving you the option to lock your machine, change your password, etc.
