Windows 2000 Pro vs A7V

I have an Asus A7V with bios 1004a. I have installed Windows 2000 Pro on it and I am not able to see my CD rom drives. I was able to see the drives right after I updated the bios but when I rebooted they were gone again. I tried reinstalling the 4 in 1 driver but no luck. I have an Athlon T-Bird 700 128 Mb of PC 100 ram ASUS 6600 G-Force. I am running a dual boot with Win ME and Win ME works fine. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

I tried that but still no luck. Also I have the ATA100 controller disabled in the bios and the drives are running on the IDE channels.

Thank you

I had the same problem with Win98, until I moved the CD-ROM drive off the ATA-100 controller and onto the motherboard controller.

I reset bios to default with no luck. The error I am getting in device manager is "Windows can not load the drivers for this device Code 31".

Thanks

According to ASUS, this is a timing problem (at least that's what I gathered after talking to them).

My setup is: Athlon 850, 128 M, 15G Hard drive, floppy. The CD IS recognized IF it's on the same controller as the hard drive, but not otherwise. Also, I can't boot from the ATA100 controller. Just get the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).

It seems that either a BIOS upgrade is in order, or that 2000 Pro needs to be a little more forgiving in its timing requirements.

I also discovered that if you use the old style IDE cable, you will also get the BSOD with my particular configuration.:frown:

I was able to get the drives in Win 2000 ONCE.....but when I booted no suck luck....HA figures....The one time I got the drives was just after my bios update to 1004a. I hope ASUS gets the problem fixed soon because my T-Bird is screamin fast in W2K

Thanks

Just install the Windows 2000 ATA100 drivers, enable them in win2k b4 u reboot, set the boot device to SCSI disable IDE boot device, turn on ata100 stuff in bios, bingo bango ur workin

Make sure you flash to 1004c. I also noticed, sometimes if you have a CD ROM disk still in the drive, it wont detect it.

I upgraded to 1004c, used win2000 install to delete my old installation and re install. I have CD ROM drives now. I also upgraded to the new VIA 4 in 1. Venomous you were right...by the way Venomous its me SAC thanks I owe ya, Venomous is the AMD Guru
