Windows 2000 Pro running games? smart or dumb?

im running windows98 rite now... and im gettin sick of all these running out of resources and weird errors... so i am wondering.. will WIndows 2000 PRO run games such as... Counter-Strike UT2k3, GTA3 ROCW etc.. all the latest games.. will it run it good? thanks! : )
 
it will run all those games just fine.

the ONLY game i've yet to get to run on windows 2k is warcraft II (not war3) i think thats because the game was made before windows2k was even dreamed of.
 
ive been runnin win 2k for a lont time and i have NO problims runnin any games. i knwo for a fact that GTA3 works on Win 2k because my brother has iton his comp also runnin 2k and i was playin it the other day. i beleive itll run any games cept anchient dos games. oldest game ive run on mine is probilly quake 2 or Tribes. they both run fine
 
I'll add my experience, which is pretty similar to what most have said, that is, pretty much every game works fine.
As for XP, there's actually one game I haven't been able to play in XP that works in XP, Motorhead.

As to why not get XP, maybe he already has a Win2K license.
Or maybe he just doesn't like XP(I know I dont, I have both and run 2K).

You think that ATA66 slows your computer down? You will be pleasantly suprised at how much CPU gets sucked up by ATA133 hard drives...

As for gaming in 2k, you're going to get mixed responses. Some people think it's the best, and others think XP is the best. For the most part you won't really run into any compatibility issues. I used to game on both 2k and XP. Then again my answers can be considered dated, I'm using FreeBSD exclusively now...
