Windows 2000 Pro & Program Settings/links question

Is there a way to save the settings (networking/ip addr settings, etc) in Win 2000 Pro, including links to installed programs
(probably involves registries)?

My problem is: Tried to install an old MS Intellimouse, and the scroll wheel wasn't recognized. Installed latest Intellipoint software, still wheel not recognized, went back to another older version of software, no go. Went back even further to even an older version of software (probably not written for win2k), and computer's (Gateway Solo notebook) keyboard will not respond & mouse (old MS mouse with no wheel that was originally installed) won't respond. Bascially I have no input into the computer. Tried hooking up another mouse, another keyboard still no go, "J" mouse pointer on notebook won't work, clicks on keyboard for pointer won't work.

Tried to repair the installation from CD-ROM, it's fine until computer scans for input devices, then asks me to change or continue, but this requires a mouse or keyboard input to continue, but mouse/keyboard won't work!

So I need a method to either by-pass any input during repair, else I would have to re-install over the directory, but it gives me a warning that all settings will be overwritten.

Any help/suggestions much appreciated before I go ahead & re-install. Will probably take a few days to have all the old programs installed again from CD & have settings back to the way they were.

BTW, there's a win98 dual-boot partition on same notebook, and when I boot into that, keyboard/mouse worked fine. So I think the 3rd old version of the Intellipoint software I tried to install messed it up since that version probably was written when win2k didn't exist yet...
