Windows 2000 Pro: "C:\Program Files" Read-Only?

I checked the properties of this folder and realized the "Read-Only" attribute is always checked. I tried to uncheck it and hit apply (after it starts changing sub-folders and files attribute) but the read-only properties stays there.

I am logged in Windows as an Administrator identity. Anyone know the resolution to this? Many thanks.

if i'm not mistaken you need to uncheck the "inheret propated permissions" in the security tab.

Actually, the "Program Files" dir is directly under C:. Since you can't set anything about read-only in C:, I don't think this folder has inhereted anything. Thanks anyway.

Hmm, All of my folders named that are read-only even on D: and E:. It must be set-up that way for security, and it doesn't stop me from installing or copying files there. I'd just ignore it.

huh, just noticed mine IS that way. Very odd. I can write to the folder tho, so I think it is probably just a bug.
