Windows 2000 on NT Server Domain Question...

Ok, I have a Windows 2000 computer, its connecting to a Windows NT Domain, for some reason, the users cannot connect to some of the network shares, even though they could when they had Windows 98, and some other Win2k machines can, EVEN when logged on as the SAME USER!

The network shares are setup as being accessible by anyone... so why can't they be accessed???

Has the upgrade changed the machine name or IP address? Your "other" PC's might still remember the old settings and are attempting to communicate using those.

Try going to a PC that can't see the network share and see what IP address the 2000 PC is resolving to. ( Ping -a x.x.x.x ) Take a look at your ARP tables on the PC's that can't connect also. (arp -a) Do they have the right entries?

Also check and see if WINS is installed on those machines in order for it to communicate within an NT domain wins must be installed. Check and see if it's set up to find the WINS controllers on your network.
funny thing I was told that Windows NT 4 only used WINS not tcp/ip for it's domain but that was about a year ago so things may have changed. tell us if your using any other protocals on your network.
