Windows 2000 is mysteriously hiding my favorites!

My favorites folder used to be filled with my favorite links. But now they have all been hidden. I know they are still there b/c if I add the same sites again it will tell me that I already have those saved, but it won't display them to me.
I'm using windows 2000 and have been experiencing a lot of problems with hidden files and folders. I've figured out how to unhide the files and folders but the favorites menu is a different story. Has anyone ever experienced this problem, or know of any remedies? I'd really like my favorites back.

Is there a little double arrow at the bottom of your Favorites list? If so, point at it for a second.

Go into advanced options in MSIE and turn off Use Personalized Favorites Menu.

I turned that off. But I still can't see any of the links.
They are still there. Just invisible..

any ideas?
