Hi guys,
I just upgraded my system to an intel P4 2.4GHz on a Gigabyte GA-PE667 i845PE chipset motherboard with 1GB DDR400 memory and a WD1200JB 120GB HDD.

I'm trying to install Win2K on an 8GB NTFS partition that I've just created using the Win2K CD, and during the blue DOS initial installation screen, it copies and configures all the files to the \WINNT directory on the 8GB main partition, then asks me to reboot. I reboot, but nothing happens, and the Win2K CD gets detected and the same old blue DOS initial installation screen appears with the same old stuff appearing.

I've tried disabling the CD-ROM as the startup drive(i.e. only HDD-0 as boot device, the 2nd and 3rd boot devices are disabled) but the same thing happens. Is this a problem with the HDD being too large(120GB) since ATA100 doesn't support 48bit LBA or something? I remember 120GB is still within the limits, correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone knows what's the problem? I'm trying FAT32 instead of NTFS now, see how it goes...

Edit: FAT32 doesn't work either...what else am I missing?

Hmmn, when I remove the Win2K CD from the CD-ROM drive, I get a "DISK BOOT FAILURE" error message. I checked the BIOS, and the HDD settings were all put to "Auto", including the access method, which had choices like Auto, CHS, LBA, Large, etc. During bootup the HDD is detected correctly, although it does take like almost a minute before the IDE detection is finished, does that have something to do with the problem?

Nevermind, found the problem. Turns out the WD1200JB needs to be set to "Cable Select(CS)" rather than "Master(MS)" like I set it to. Weird...

Yeah, that's ussually the problem. WD's drives have very specific jumper settings, Single Drive (master), Master w/Slave present and so on. I had that exact same problem a few months ago. I couldn't get the computer to boot up.
