Windows 2000 Installation error-Asus A7V133

I have an Asus A7V133 motherboard with an Athlon 950. Everthing has been running very well under Windows 2000 for a year or two. My hard drive crashed and I purchased a new hard drive. When I went to install Windows 2000 onto the new hard drive, the install crashed during the hardware detection phase. It said to contact your hardware manufacturer. I have pulled out all of my other cards such as the sound card and tried to reinstall with everything from a different video card, different memory modules, and a different CDROM drive. Nothing works. The only thing left that I haven't tried is the motherboard and processor.

There are two ways I can go about resolving this. Purchase a new motherboard and processor or purchase an older motherboard and use the existing Athlon 950 Socket A processor. I really don't want to spend much money, probably no more than $100 for the processor and motherboard combo. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Try running the manufacturer's diagnostics on the motherboard. Also try resetting the bios to defaults. 😕
