Windows 2000 Install Problem

I have trouble installing my copy of Windows 2000. I inserted the install CD into my CD-Rom and booted the computer. Windows 2000 Setup loaded just fine. However, it failed to recognize my HD partition properly. I have a 20GB IBM Deskstar HD but the setup program detected it as a 2016MB HD. It also failed to format the partition. Does anyone knows how to fix the problem. I wanted to try out this forum first before calling Microsoft Technical Support since I'm sure that this is just a minor problem.

In case you guys are wondering, my hardware spec is as below:

Asus CUSL2 815E Motherboard
Pentium III 700E CPU
128MB PC133 Ram
IBM Deskstar 20.6GB HD (Master)
Maxtor 13 GB HD (Slave)
Creative Labs 6X DVD-ROM
Smart & Friendly 4X CDRW Drive
Sound Blaster Live Value
Ati All in Wonder 128 Pro
Linksys Ethernet Card

Why not try booting up off a Win98 boot disk and then FDISK/Format with that first before you install Win2K? If you need to convert to NTFS, it's just a simple step after you install, or you can choose to convert to NTFS during installation.

I did that but Windows 2000 still detected my HD as 2016MB. It also refused to format the HD, citing that the HD is corrupted or something like that.

As Andy correctly suggested, do the 98 disk again but also do an FDISK /MBR to clear out your Master Boot Record.

Let us know how things come out.

I did everything you guys asked me to do and I still wasn't able to install Windows 2000.
Then, I thought, maybe this is not a software problem. Sure enough, when I checked the jumper setting on my HD, one of them was set to the 2GB clip. I removed that particular jumper and I tried to install Windows 2000 again. This time, the installation went along without any problem at all. Yeaaaa...
Anyway, thanks for the advise. I really appreciate it.
