Need some help. I've done some searches, but didn't really find what I needed.

I am trying to install W2K (clean install) to dual boot with Windows 98. I have two HDs, one partitioned for W98. I installed W2K to the same drive, but the other partition. Everything seemed to install fine, but when I reboot the computer and go into W2K it hangs on the start-up screen. The blue taskbar fills up and then it just sits there. Tried going into safe mode and it did the same thing.

I can still get into Win98, so I either want to fix 2000 or remove it completely, both of which I don't know how to do.

I am pretty computer illiterate, so bear with me. I'll give you all my info. I have a HP 500 Mhz Celeron 6545C, 128 RAM. I have a Voodoo3 PCI, Quantum Fireball 7200 and 5400 HDs. I don't know what kind of motherboard I have (I have decided HP doesn't WANT you to know) so if anyone can tell me how to find that out, I would appreciate it.

I plan to get a more modern motherboard soon, so I may just wait until then to deal with this problem. If it's a quick fix, fine, if it is a big hassle, I wanna take it off. If anyone can help me, I would really really REALLY appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Have you waited a few minutes to make sure it doesnt continue? My Promise controller caused it to do that for 30-40 seconds but it continued after that.

Try booting to 98 and making sure the boot.ini file is correct. Make sure that the 2k is ointing to the correct place.

If that is okay then I would put the 2k setup disks in and reinstall or fix the install you have. Might not have been installed correctly. If you want to do another clean install, when you get to the screen where it askl you which partition you would like to install on select the partition that you currently (it will tell you which one yo installed on) and delete it reformat and install. Follow the screens and you will be okay.

Good luck...
