Windows 2000 help.

I have WIndows 2k on my computer, I bought teh Radeon 7500 all-in-wonder card and it freaked out. I almost lost everything on the comp. I finally got it working by reinstalling 2000. I didn't have it overwrite the old 2k because I didn't know if I needed the drivers. NOW everything is working. Can I delete the old Windows 2k or do I need it? Are there drivers in it that the computer is using now? If I delete it will that quit asking which OS to use at startup? I have been at this for over 6 hours. Someone please help.

When you boot the computer, if you are selecting and using the new version of 2000, and everything works fine, I would think that it would be OK to delete the old one. However, the way in which you delete the old version is very important, and the answer to your question would rely on your partition setup. If you have the new Windows 2000 on a different partition from the old one, you could just format the old partition.

I don't know how you have the drive partitioned, so it would be difficult for me to know for sure how to get rid of the old install. Just to be safe, I would backup your files and wipe the whole drive. Although this might be a pain, it is a sure fire way to take care of the problem. I know ATI has drivers for 2000, and you could download it when you got 2000 up and running again.

About it asking which OS at startup: right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup & Recovery and you can specify to use one or the other without offering a list. Welcome to the Forums 😀
 
You can delete the folder that has the old version installed; i.e. WINNT vs WINNT2. Just delete the old install folder. To test it first, simply rename the folder in Explorer and reboot. Re-Renaming it back is much simpler than Undeleting that folder. To remove the secondary choice at the boot menu, edit the boot.ini file and remove the line that references the old boot folder.
