Ok I am running a Voodoo 3 2000 agp in windows 2000 and when I go to play a game it defaults to 60hz. my normal hz is 85 in windows.
This is with a Sony E200 Trinitron monitor.

is there anyway to fix this? I know in windows me it didn't change my hz when playing a game.

For DirectX games. Run: dxdiag.exe from Start Menu. Click the More help tab and override the Refresh Rate value to 85 or 100

For OpenGL games like Quake III Arena you have to change the game configuration file (q3config.cfg for Quake III) and add this value:

seta r_displayrefresh "xx"

"xx" = any numbers you desire.

thanks
I was looking around the net and found some files on NTCompatible that allow you to change the rates.
so far so good. 60hz hurts :)

Will that work? For UT I am using Glide (Voodoo 3). But I'll try it anyway thx, and blayze's suggestion too.

Can't you set it to optimal? I don't want to set it to 100 for 1024*768 and then when i play another game at 1600*1200 it goes out of sync cause 100 is too high..
