I getting a new hard drive for my box. What is the best way to get Windows 2000 for it? Should I get the Oem with the drive (at some places I can do this) or should I buy the fll version? Is there any difference in the 2. i would prefer the full version over an upgrade. Any help greately appreciated.

There is no difference between the 'full' version and the OEM version as far as the software goes. The only difference is that the OEM version can only be sold legally with the purchase of a new machine even though many vendors do it anyway.

That and the OEM version must be installed in a clean install (i.e. you can't upgrade from Win 98/NT4 to OEM 2000, u must install clean).

Thats not true. I have an OEM Win2k and it was going to upgrade my 98se to Win2k when I put in the disk just to poke around on it.

Classy,

I am not positive on this, but it usually requires you to start the install process (upgrade process) for it to tell you that a full version is needed. I think around when it examines your system it will come back with an error.

Fenrir is correct...You can not do an upgrade from a full-version disk. Only from an upgrade disk. And yes, I have tried this..BTW, Get the OEM if you can, it will be cheaper and it IS legal as long as you buy the qualifying amount of hardware to go with it (cd-rom, HDD, case, etc).
