windows 2000 error code 7

in trying to upgrade my mates computer on his network at his office (hes the boss) from Win98 to Win2000 the system returns this error

setupdd.sys could not be loaded. the error code is 7

plus, many other times it freezes during the setup of booting off the CD

yes the hardware is sufficient.


does anyone know what error code 7 is for Win2000??

its a fresh install.i think i might know what it could be as i have seen a simliar thing happen before, but that was with Win98 (and as far as i know Win98 has installed no probs before on it)

Also, freezes if i use a WinXP CD

Is this error code coming from the "Event Log"? If so, go to Eventid.net and enter the code in the search box. This site is da bomb for deciphering this stuff. It's helped me more than a few times.

cool, thanx, i'll add that site for Event log errors, since Microsoft never seems to know.

but the error is during install. booting off the CD in fact.

the HDD is newly formatted with NTSF.
