Ok, so here's the situation:

I have a laptop that my company gave me for work. It uses a domain (as opposed to a workgroup) for it's network and apparantly it's logon as well. I wanted to transfer files between my home PC and the laptop via network sharing. Everytime I tried it would never work (the two wouldnt see each other). So finally I noticed that the laptop uses a domain, and so I switched it to use a Workgroup (the same workgroup as my PC) in an attempt that I could transfer the files and then switch it back.

It told me that it needed to reboot and so I agreed. Finally when I have to Logon to the machine again I can't. It tells me that it either my password is incorrect (possible Caps Lock) or it can't logon to the domain. I know it's not the Caps Lock, so I'm pretty sure I screwed myself with that settings change. So now I can't logon to change it back either. Not sure what to do. The only option available is to "Logon using Dial-up". I tried that and it just gave me a wrong number (can't change the number or anything). Any help PLEASE!! Thanks in advance.

Trading between domain and non-domain machines via Network Neighborhood is a big mess. Better to use removable media or a common ftp site. But anyway, as to your problem... the machine is looking for a local login now. There has to be at least a local Administrator login - perhaps you know the password to that. But other than that, there aren't necessarily any other local accounts. It's possible to reset the local admin password using one of the password reset disks floating around out there. But as this is a work machine, you're probably better off asking your admin at work (who should know the password) to rejoin the machine to the domain.

I figured I would need one of the admins from the company. Only thing is I wont be in the office till Wednesday, which means that I'm screwed with my comp till then (and I have to get some work done). Maybe I'll try and make an emergency trip to the office if I can (got clients I have to be at).

Yeah, I realize now that I shoulda used CD-Rs but I was transferring about 12 MPEGs which were like 450 megs each, so I didnt wanna burn 12 CDs...figured I'd just let the transfer go.

For future reference, is there a way to connect them when one's on a domain and one isnt? Thanx again for your help.

Put the share on the non-domain machine and find that machine by IP address. I think that should get you a pop-up dialog asking for a username and password - you want to connect using a username and password from the non-domain machine. If you don't get the pop-up, you might need to make sure the non-domain machine has an account with the same username and password that you're using on the domain machine.

None of that is terribly convenient - no Network Neighborhood or even NetBIOS name resolution. But it should work. Doing better would require a WINS server, I think.

Nothing you can do unless you know a local account login name/password (like the local admin account). Otherwise, you'll need work to readd the machine to the domain.
