Windows 2000 desktop problem

I am using windows 2000 Pro SP1 on a Novell network. My problem is that occasionally certain task (varies) I do whether using Outlook or whatever, my desktop disapears. All icons are gone, whatever app that is open is not displayed. All I get is the mouse cursor and my wallpaper. I can get to my apps via task manager but thats a pain in the a$$. If I log out then log back in the desktop reapears. Anyone know what causes this? This never happens on any of my home pcs, just at work on these POS compaqs we use. This has happened on a couple of systems in my office so i am kinda leaning towards MS hates Novell and vice-versa. 🙂 I use Novells client 4.80.200000717. thanks.
