windows 2000: Can I make 2 user with the same username ?

I am running an exchange server 2000. I will help my buddy host his email on my home exchange server. Unfortunately, I've used up the username webmaster, admin and a bunch other that he needs.

How do I create anoterh user called webmaster in the same server box?
I've tried assigning the usename to 2 smtp addresses, but they both keep the same mail store. I've also tried to create different OU, but it doesn't help.

Is there a way to do this with exchange/win2K ?

any help appreciated.

like:

webmaster@yourdomain.com
webmaster@mydomain.com

?

Is there a trick to be able to do this and setup different exchange profiles for it ?

hmm with two different domains you might be able too...give it a try

In Exchange you should be able to assign any SMTP mail address to a user regardless of their username, but, you can only use the same SMTP address once. Even though you have a user named Webmaster already, their SMTP mail address does not HAVE to be webmaster@domain.com. You can have a user named Joe Blow Whatshisname and he can have an SMTP address of webmaster@domain.com if you want him to. The only thing you can't do is have two webmaster@domain.com e-mail addresses in the same e-mail domain.

so are you saying that it is possible to create an email address even with different username ?

so I can have a user named Johndoe and his smtp address be webmaster@hisdomain.com ?

Yeah, that's it exactly. A user's SMTP e-mail address does not have to be even remotely like their username.

Its called an Alias...

I do it all thetime on my mail/web server.

I host 20 or so web pages, and each person wants an "webmaster@blah.com" and a "admin@blah.com"

but i allready got webmaster@mypersonaldomain.com and the admin acount

so what i do is i take the first letter/word of their domain and put it in the front,...
eg:

www.omniboards.com
they want "webmaster@omniboards.com", i would create a user account called omniwebmaster, and alias it to webmaster@omniboards.com

so the owner of omniboards.com would use "omniwebmaster" as is emial user name, then the password, and that would pull up any emial waiting for him that was addressed to webmaster@omniboards.com

You can connect any amount of SMTP addresses to one username, regardless of username.

You can only have one of each username on the same server.

The mail addresses can be pretty much anything you want, as long as you follow something@somedomain.topdomain
