I've recently installed windows 2000, and would like to know how (if possible) to create a boot disk that will recognize the NTFS file system.
Also being a home installation, I'm concerned about securing it against any outside attacks. I've had a look at the microsoft site but I wasn't able to find out what Component services should and shouldn't be running. Any and all help is appreciated.

thanks tux.

So you are saying you want to somehow boot into DOS and be able to access your NTFS formatted drive in DOS? If so, that's impossible. Nothing other than WinNT/2K/XP can read NTFS formatted drives. In addition, I've never really used NT/2K/XP bootdisks before because they were just too much of a hassle. 4 freaking disks for 2K are you kidding me? Instead I just use an ME bootdisk whenever I need to boot into DOS.

If your drive is NTFS formatted, you are outta luck.

If you want to create the Win2k bootdisks you can run the MAKEBOOT A: command from the BOOTDISK directory on your Win2k installation CD.
It won't give you the traditional DOS prompt though.

You can run the recovery console from the Win2k cd and access the NTFS drive, still have to log in - of course.
there are some 3rd party products as well that will allow you to access and NTFS volume like ERD Commander and the like.
