Windows 2000 boot disk issue at NewEgg

After just ordering win2k from newegg, I realized it came with no boot disk. Luckilly I had another machine handy to make all FOUR disks. Still even though I bought the OEM version, how was I supposed to install it if another machine ahd not been handy? Just a heads up to anyone. BTW, win2k is a great os, and you should all be using it or linux.

Just a heads up for you, the OEM version doesn't come with the floppys.

Not all computers or CDROM's support CD booting. Even my own and my roommate's, after we switched to ECS K7S5A motherboards, we suddenly lost the ability to boot to CD and have yet to find the combination of settings that will let it happen. Worked fine on our previous motherboards.

However, you CAN just boot to a floppy (with CD drivers) and use the utility on the 2k/XP CD to create the installation floppies. (Bootdisk directory, makeboot.exe) Of course, it'd be nice if MS made the setup program able to run under Win98's DOS at least, or be able to START the program and load particular files to the hard drive that allow it to reboot and run setup.

The floppy is dead.

The only time I use my floppy nowadays is to flash the BIOS. How would you flash a BIOS without a floppy - create a boot cd? Seems like too much hassle to me.
