Windows 2000 black screen

I am trying to redo Windows 2000 on a laptop I just got but am having a problem. It boots to the CD fine and gets all the way to where it says Windows 2000 is starting now. You know right before you go in to choose partion and stuff. But it doesn't make it that far. After the Windows 2000 is starting it goes to a black screen and hangs there.

What could be causing this? I know the CD is fine.
