Windows 2000 and PPPoE Problems

Hi, I have SBC Yahoo! DSL and it uses the PPPoE interface to connect to the internet.

I was dual booting Windows XP and 2000 but I had a problem in 2000. In Windows XP, as soon as it booted up, I could connect to the internet, almost instantaneously. However, in Windows 2000, I have no problem connecting ... I must wait 60 - 90 seconds before I can dial my connection. If I Opened IE, it would sit at a white screen for about a minute, before the username/pw screen would pop up. If I just tried to dial my connection (using RASSPPOE or whatever), it would take the same amount of time for the screen to pop up. Once those first 60 or so seconds have passed and I have been connected, I can disconnect and connect just like that. The problem is only in the initial minute or two right after booting up.

I have tried Enternet and RASSPPOE, but both require about a 60 to 90 seconds after it finishes booting until I can log on. Like I said, with the built in WinXP one, I can log on the second after it finishes booting. What could the problem be and what can I do to fix it. Thanks!

No, there isn't.

Windows 2000 always has a 60-90 delay so it can load up all it's drivers, services, and tasks at start-up. In fact, XP did the very same thing up until recently when a patch was released to decrease load-up time (for some as as 2 minutes).

So the truth is, there is NO problem with your PPPoE connection, or anything else. It's just 2000 going through it's usual start-up routine....

....so quit your whining. ;)
