I have a small network setup with a computer running windows 2000 and a Mac running OS 9.2. They are on a DLink router and sharing a DSL line. Everything is running fine on each computer individually, but I can't get them to see each other for services. The Mac has 2 printers connected to it, but I want the 2000 machine to be able to print off of the Mac.

Steps I have taken to get this working:
I have appletalk installed on the windows machine.
I have the mac set up under USB printer sharing to advertise the printers.

I have pretty good experience with windows machines and making them work, but this Mac is giving me a run for my money. I would like this to work without having to use 3rd party applications but I am ready to be realistic and I notice that is what most people recomend. Any help that you guys can provide is very much appreciated.

Pretty sure that can't be done. Usb printer sharing on the mac only works to other macs on the same os. If you have the right services installed you might be able to go the other way and serve the printer on the w2k machine and have the mac print to it. Otherwise os 10 does alot better in this situation.

You can't do this without 3rd party applications. OS 9 is not Windows friendly by default. You need something like Thursby Software's DAVE.

Thanks, I am looking into the DAVE option, maybe it is worthwhile investment for us right now since unforetunately we have a real mix if computers in our home/business network.

Best option for you to use is get an external print server that has appletalk services as well as standard tcp/ip. The last thing you want to do is install a server software on a Mac running OS 9.x If this is a laser printer with postscript, it's easily done. If it's a host based inkjet, you're in for a rollercoaster. What model printer is this?
