Hey folks...

Well, I just installed Linux (Mandrake 7.2) on one of my hard drives. I am completely new to Linux mind you, but the install took less than 20 minutes :)

First thing I did was run Partition Magic 6 and created a Linux partition. Originally it was C: for Win2K (NTFS) and D: (fat32 for data. I resized C and D to make room for the Linux partition.

When installing Linux, I pointed the it to the new Linux partiton.... after it completed and rebooted, Linux started up (in KDE).

My question is, can I set up Linux to ask for what O/S to boot into (instead of always going to Linux). I thought that during the installation it would ask me about a "dual-boot-option."

I am not too worried in either case since I have "Ghosted" my Win2K partition just before....

Also, anyone know a way to get my intellimouse scroll wheel and extra buttons to work?

didn't it ask you if you wanted to setup lilo? You might need to reinstall again. Choose customized this time.

You can install the Linux boot manager or Re-install the WinNT boot loader. Then edit either one to include the other OS boot option. I suggest using the WinNT bootloader.

Thanks for the tips guys....

But I was playing around with it this AM, and got dual-booting with 6 mouse clicks.... It was actually too easy. I thought Linux was tough ;)

What I did was:

Open DrakeConf>Tools for Booting>Configure LILO-GRUB... then I added my Windows partition to the entry!

After re-booting I presented with a GURB menu (Linux, Failsafe, Floppy, Windows).

It took me longer to type this then it was to set up (once I knew where it was).

BTW: I am not sure if it was easy because of Mandrake 7.2 or ....

Now I need to figure out how to see what services are running that I don't need (getting harder). I think I will start another Linux thread...
