Windows 2000 and Games Locking up PC?? How can I check for bad sectors in 2000?

I just reinstalled Windows 2000 for the 2nd time. Forsome reason when ever I try and play CS or UnrealTournamnet my PC locks up and the H/D light stays on and I cant even control-Alt Delete to get out I have to restart PC!! I have another computer that has Windows 2000 and the same games and both games run fine?? Anyone know what could be the problem? I also installed the lastest Voodoo 3- 2000 drivers and the 4-1 drivers. Using a Ax63 Pro board. I can install applications like Winzip,Getright WinAmp and all those run fine. It only seems to happen when ever I run games. Hardware Problem? Also installed SP-1.

I see there is NO scandisk option in windows 2000. Is there a way or new option that replaces it so I can check my H/D?

Thanks!

This may be a long shot, but have you done a surface scan lately? I have had programs lock up because the hard drive was trying to read from bad sectors. Also, I have a 20GB Maxtor drive that will lock up about 15% into Defrag and ScanDisk, yet I have done multiple surface scans and have come up with nothing to RMA it on. It will also lock up randomly too. It just may be that your swap file grows to the point when you are running those games that it hits some bad sectors.

Check the temperature of your CPU and the internal temperatuer of your computer. High temperatures could cause the problem as well.

Are you running Zone Alarm? I had one hell of a time trying to get games to work when za was running. If you are than just turn off za before you play your games. It may also happen with other firewall programs but I dont know.

How much memory do you have? 128 meg is not enough for gaming. My brother had the same problem until I bought him a 256 meg stick.

Running 256 Megs, side cover is off the case also running a Aritic Cooler Fan and Im not running Alarm Zone. The hard drive has a clean install with not much on it but windows 2000.
