Windows 2000 and cdrom errors

Could someone tell me WHY i keep getting these errors when I attempt to copy a file from ANY cd to my harddrive. I have a 72x Kenwood on cable select and on the secondary channel. It just doesnt lock up explorer, but my who computer. Here is the error:

This makes no sense to me. I am running this setup:

ECS K7S5A
AMD Tbird 900 (1.2 core)
256MB ram
40gig Maxtor
Kryo2 video card
Onboard Lan and sound
72x Kenwood


PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!
