HAs anyone successfully isntalled win2k on an a7v mobo?
During installation , it gives me blue screen with system halted, contact your vendor.

I've also had problems with winME, after a day of no problems on winme, suddenly it always gives a windows protection fault error b4 goign into windows. THis is B4 i get into windows.

temps around 33-41 for the mobo and 40-50 for the cpu

I had no trouble what-so-ever installing W2K on my A7V, using both the ATA100 controller with a compatible drive in one install, and all scsi in another. What bios are you running?

Sounds like a problem I had with windows, if the screen was a deep blue saying something along the lines of if this is the first time you have seen this message ... restart your computer.

This was because of the ATA 100 adapter which win2k doesn't understand in some eralier installations, this is easily solved by putting the latest download of the promise ata-100 files on to a floppy. (The windows 2000 directory and files below that are all that are needed) When installing windows press F6 to install a seperate controller, then S put in the floppy with the new files, and press enter. That should sort that out. If it's not that i'm not sure.

I have also noticed that win2k starts a lot slower on my AMD 900 than under my pII-350, it hangs for the best part of a minute about half way on that windows startup screen with the blue progress bar. Any suggestions to that would be apreciated. All my drivers are up to date including the bios (had to, to get the second ide).

No I don't think so, but it might still be worth a go, and I've generally found the ata-100 to be a bit faster than the other ide's so its worth enabling

You might have a bad board. I have an Asus A7V along with a Duron600@900MHz using a Matrox G400 and have no problem so far. Keeping my fingers crossed.

i'm running a duron 700 @ 900 on an a7v 1004a. i installed win2k on it but under the 1002 bios and have since upgraded to the 1004a bios.

the reason windows seems to hang ( but doesn't ) is due it's promise ata100 drivers.

if you don't use a ata100 drive then just disable ( not remove ) it in the device manager so that it's crossed out. and also disable it in the bios so that your board does not look for an ata100 drive ( this only works for the 1004a bios and up ). your boot up time will be shortened considerably.

i've heard of the 1004c bios but it's not on the asus site so maybe it's still being tested. i don't know.

That aparent hang can be resolved even easier, download the promise ata-100 drivers build 25 this solves the delayed start in win2k which I've heard rumors is caused by win2k searching for other computers on a local network.

But installing this build of the ata-100 (which has just been released) resolves this problem and you can still use and boot from your ata-100 drives.
