My friend gave me this O/S and I am wondering if it will be any different with games than Win2K Pro. BTW, I have absolutely no complaint about gaming with Win2KPro.

Also, will the latest service packs work with Win2K Advanced Server or just Pro?

Thanks in advance.

The service pack should be for all flavors of Win2K.

Server should be similar to Professional provided that you don't set it up to be a domain controller. If you set it up to do any kind of real "serving" then it's going to load a lot more into memory at startup. This still might not be an issue if you have large amounts of RAM and don't mind having those services go by by when you run a game.

I might also add that the OS is by default set to run background processes at higher priority than foreground processes... this needs to be changed if you will be using the server more like a workstation.

The server edition is the slower than the pro edition. The server version has more background services and other components that a gaming machine doesn't need. For the best speed, stick with pro.
