I have a Creative 6x/4x/24x drive...and win2000 adv. server. None of the programs I tried using works...NERO 5.03, adaptec 3.51?C...with the patch....and CDRWIN.....I read something about having an ASPI layer installed...yet all I found on the net was one file called wnaspi32.dll ..and the readme file said to just copy that file into the winnt/system32 folder...which I did and rebooted..but nothing works. Any help would be appreciated..thanks.

I have the CD-RW as secondary slave..and the secondary primary is my Mitsumi 48x CD-ROM..and the primary has an IBM75gxp 30gig as master and a seagate 8.4gig as slave...does that configuration have anything to do with it not working???

You need a functional ASPI layer, Win2000 inexpicably does not include one and Adaptec has cracked down on "illegal" copies. You'll have to do some hunting around to find one you can download.

This may help.. I have a hp CD Writer 8100 which is not compatible with Windows 2000 Server. It is compatible with Windows 2000 Pro.. I tried several versions of Adaptec and none of them worked. I created a 2 gig partition and threw Win2Kpro on it and it worked like a charm.. So I don't know the difference but if you are in a hurry and don't have research time, you may do that.

thanks....I just thought all flavors of win2k would be the same in terms of what hardware works and what doesn't. I guess i'll try to find that functional aspi layer.....

I hope you find an answer. But most of the burning software manufactures will tell you that you can't burn from Server.

Maybe you'll find a way around it. :)

I have a Plextor 8/20 on my Server and it will burn using Nero 5.0.x.x (can't remember for sure), but most of the time I have to burn at 4x. I seem to lose a lot of CD's or can't read all of the CDs done at 8x. It can be done, it just seems that it isn't perfect.

check the dma in the driver properties. i dunno about burners, but for cd's the dma is never enabled by default in the hd controller driver.
