windows 2000 acting up

I'm tryign to fix a friend's computer, who has win2000 pro.

problem is that after a while of having the computer on, the following error appears:

"
RUNDLLS32.exe: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Clik on OK to terminate the application.
"

Hitting ok doesnt' do anything, except spawn the same error a few seconds later.

now what i'm confused about is first of all i thought it was rundll32.dll, not with an "s" in it as above. the file listed above doesnt' even appear when i hit search.

anyone got any ideas as to what this could be? i also ran a virus check, i'm clean.

Do you have all the latest security patches from M$? if not, I suggest doing a windows update, and then see if you have any problems. Otherwise if you haven't already tried a google search, you could type the exact error in quotes and that might give you a little better idea.

Yeah windows update is the latest, google doesnt' come up with anything helpful :-(

I did a search on google, and it came up with a couple of articles that said the rundlls32.exe was an indication that the computer has been hacked, and the exe is an executable that can grant remote access. you might want to look into it a little more, and see if you can find that executable and get it off of your machine.
