Does it have any unique / useful features or party tricks?

Or is it another JIRA-requirement driven "As a user, I would like to be able to skip a song", bare minimum in terms of requirements, software developed in order to check a box?

Remember that the classic Windows Media Player isn’t going anywhere. If you prefer the classic Windows Media Player, you can still enable it from Optional Settings, though it goes without saying that the old Media Player will be removed from the operating system in a future release.

They've been saying that WMP is going to get killed for a while now I'm fairly sure. I guess there goes CD ripping in Windows?

For now, with the preview version, the old WMP is still there under Windows Tools and you can still rip CDs. This may change when the final new WMP comes out.
