So Windows 10 has this feature that is described as 'logging your input' for the purpose of improving your experience etc. etc. Now you can disable it, but am I right in interpreting it to mean that it is a keylogger stripping away all the fancy wording to pass it off as a feature ?

Not looking to start a flamewar, just want to know if the core functionality amounts to keylogging and phoning in your keystrokes to Microsoft if you enable it.

This info decides for me if I use this OS or not. Can't find anything on the web that really gives a straight unbiased answer.

I suppose that functionality is there on the preview versions that are out now. Once it goes final and for sale, it should be clean.

If not, then I wouldn't touch W10 with a laser pointer...

it's for the preview editions to help see where the OS can be optimize in response to user inputs. If MS left this in release versions you can be sure some security expert would blow the whistle on something that shady.

It's less about keystrokes (in fact I would be surprised if MS logged every stroke) and more about patterns. What do you do with Windows? Where do you click? Do you use the run command to bring up calculator?

They need to know how well the UI is working, and to do that they need to know something about your inputs.

My guess, YES, it's is. And it will probably be in the final retail.

In fact, it appears that they are adding this to Win7 / 8 / 8.1 installs too, under the guise of "Diagnostic Tracking Service".
